Who is Glenn Scott?
Glenn Scott is a 20 year old from Mangrove Mountain on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia. He has the determination and character to be crowned World Moto GPchampion in the future.
Glenn has had to endure personal tragedy that nobody at such a young age should ever have to experience. His parents, Denise and Denis Scott, were killed in a motorcycle accident when Glenn was only 12 years old.
Since that time Glenn has been raised by his older brother, Greg and sister, Candice. The three Scott children have stayed together as a family and supported each other throughout the past eight years.
The Scott family has always had a passion for motorbikes. This was no doubt cultivated by Denise and Denis before they were tragically killed doing what they enjoyed, riding motorbikes. Glenn’s first bike was a LEM 50cc, a motorbike purchased by his parents when he was only 5 years old. At the age of 6,Glenn had won his first Australian Championship. Over the next 6 years the Scott family would travel throughout Australia, competing in various dirt bike competitions. The passing of Glenn’s parents saw Greg and Candice continue to support Glenn and his dream to be a World Champion. By the time Glenn was 15 he had won a further 42 State titles and 8 Australian titles. Without the support of his family, Glenn would not have had the opportunity to experience such success.
After switching from dirt bikes to road racing,Glenn’s potential and talent were recognised in 2007 when only 15, a student at school and barely old enough to road race, he won the 125cc Australian Superbike Championship. In doing so, Glenn had 10 straight wins across Australia and broke 2 lap records to be crowned 125GP Australian Champion. What makes his achievement remarkable is Glenn was the “new kid on the block”, racing seasoned competitors. Even more remarkable, Glenn was able to complete his School Certificate at Central Coast Grammar School. Glenn’s school years have been well supported by both fellow students and staff.
During 2008 and 2009 Glenn travelled back and forth to Spain to compete in the 125GP Spanish Championship, with a private team called 7C the first year and Stop and Go Honda the next year. This was a steep learning curve for Glenn. He was racing against the best riders in a foreign country at only 16 years of age. Living in San Fruitos in 2009, a small town outside Barcelona, where he trained with his team mates and competed again in the125GP Spanish Championship.
The 2010 season saw Glenn riding back home in the Australian Formula Xtreme Championship on a BMW S1000 RR. Coming from a 125cc background, riding the BMW was a big directional change for Glenn. Halfway through the racing season Glenn moved to a Kawasaki ZX6 where he competed in the FX 600 class of the Australian Formula Xtreme Championship and gained several podium positions. Glenn competed in 2 series in 2011; The Australian Superbike championship, winning the last race of the championship and selected rounds of the Australian Formula Extreme championship, winning all six races of the final round. Great success towards the end of the 2011 season in both series would seem to make Glenn a hot contender for the 2012 Super Sport championship.
2012 would see Glenn and his brother, Greg create their own Super Sport team “Glenn Scott Racing/YRD” with the support of Yamaha. Glenn has his sights firmly set on becoming the 2012 Australian Super Sport champion which he hopes will create opportunities to once again compete overseas in the future.
Glenn has come so far in a short time. Whether this young man does become World Champion one day or not is irrelevant. The facthe has a dream and is doing whatever he can to achieve it under difficult circumstances is amazing. With the support of his loving brother and sister there is no looking back. “I am more determined than ever to achieve my goal. I have come so far and jumped many hurdles". Glenn’s parents would be proud of him and his brother Greg, and sister Candice.
Glenn is embodied in the true Australian spirit. He has such determination and integrity. The Central Coast community is proud to follow Glenn on his journey as will the rest of Australia when they learn of his compelling story of commitment.
